ISOS – Sustainable islands

05.04.2022
The Tavolara MPA adheres to the ISOle Sostenibili community project (Réseau d’îles pour le développement) which sees the French department Département du Var as the leader and involves the Autonomous Region of Sardinia, the Tavolara MPA, the Archipelago National Park Toscano, the Province of La Spezia and the French partners Espace Littoral et des Rivages Lacusres, L’Office de l’Environnement de la Corse, Parc National de Port-Cros, Ville de Cannes.

The small islands of the Mediterranean area, involved in this project, are territories that have unique cultural and natural heritages, however they are also fragile territories compared to the challenges imposed by mainly seaside tourism.

These island territories, with considerable population variations based on the seasons, experience common problems of degradation of their heritage, waste management or energy supply that are not suited to the environmental quality of the places. The islands forming part of the partnership – island of Lérins (AM), islands of Hyères (VAR), Lavezzi islands (CORSICA), island of Capraia (TUSCANY), island of Tavolara and Asinara (SARDINIA), island of Palmaria (LIGURIA ) – wish to engage in this strategic project to preserve their assets and jointly develop a “sustainable island” approach
